Rebuilding Progress

GB3GN75 %
GB3NG45 %

GB3GN and GB3NG have reached the end of their life and owe the group nothing after decades of good service. Both stations are now being rebuilt.

A three man team spent 14 hours (6 man days) on Cairn Mon Earn on the 23rd March 2010 and made significant progress to all on site works as well as repairing the failed logic (not to mention a little amateur forestry with a hack saw).

The montage above shows a snapshot of the days events. CME is a quite inaccessable place during the winter months so the first challenge was accessing the site, a four wheel drive and a hacksaw being essential equipment. The GN logic required some attention to replace the missing pips and was repaired on site.

After 20 plus years of service this old logic controller has corroded and components have lost tolerance hopefuly, with a bit of luck, it may see us through the rebuilds. The cavity filters for GN had to be adapted to fit into the new racking systems, this was done and the filters re-tuned (improvement should be noticed).

A great deal of was achieved with the 19 inch racking during this visit. Custom bracketry was fabricated on site for both the GN and NG cabinets and significant progress was made in preparing the racks to accept the Tait chassis, batteries, charger, DC switching & fusing, cavity filters and all the other paraphernalia required for a professional set up that will serve the Groups ambition for many years to come.
